Oh goodness me..la,la,la...goodnes gracious...fa, la...etc. Have I had a splendid day!
Here's the stall at the start of the day. Thank goodness I did a trial set up during the week because the folding trestle table I bought had a leg piece put on the wrong way round and it wouldn't straighten. I was able to fix it, but I didn't have a phillips head screwdriver and shifter in my market kit on the day and it could have been aweful.
The day started with hot and humid weather. I was upstairs. The venue was an old building once housing stables, now a gallery. It was boiling.
See the roof in this pic. Iron roof between me and the sky. So hot. Add hordes of people with accompanying body heat. I wasn't glowing. I wasn't even perspiring. I was sweating! The next market is in January: I will be bringing a towel!
Highlights:
The lovely lady at the stall next to me had a very nice lightweight jacket made from the same fabric I made the loose covers for one of my couches. When I told her she laughed loudly, and retold the story about fifty times I'm sure. Her knitting was exquisite.
I've been out of the loop with young children, toddler to about age six. I'd forgotten how beautiful these littlies are with their big eyes fringed with long lashes, perfect skin, little girls with impossibly cute pig tails, curly haired youngsters. They were so adorable. I complimented so many mothers most sincerely about their lovely children, and just soaked up the gorgeousness of them.
I loved the kid's response to the little animals. I wasn't going to make any more (they're rather fiddly), but now I might. They also sold well...
Great cameraderie amongst stallholders. I have tips about other markets, and there was the "watch my stall" while I go...wherever. We shopped each other's stalls as well. Much good stuff was to be had.
I made enough to cover Leah's year eleven school fees/levies/textbooks. Hip hip hooray. To be paid on Tuesday.
Satisfied, for the next month or so, my social needs. Being a social retard, it doesn't take much to fill my needs. If it wasn't for the internet I would be a total recluse.
I had business cards printed (my design) and quite a few were taken. Interestingly, a number by people who had friends having babies, youngsters having birthdays: didn't want to buy right now but wanted the reference. Some,I hope, by people who may want to wholesale. I still have to get a job (regular income for budgeting purposes).
It was good. Very good.
How rewarding - and how could anyone not love those wonks?!
