Maker's Market number two today, not as lucrative as the last, but defintiely worth having a stall.
The stall and my two offsiders just before opening time. The lady in the background, facing us, was Linsey's grade four teacher, lovely lady. Just thought you needed to know that...
Clare and Ally were good company and most helpful. I was able to leave them in charge while I ran to the bank to get more change. It seems everyone had $50 notes. They went and got me coffee and, even though we had brought sandwiches and fruit for us, I let them buy some biscuits and muffins from the Red Cross fundraising food stall, when the coffee was purchased. They also raided the money tin for their pocket money! The earnings from this market will almost pay their school levies. Better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick I reckon!
Up there, on that second storey/mezzanine is a dance school - ballet, jazz and tap. Leah was a budding ballerina there for a while, until she went to secondary school and her new peer group considered ballet uncool. Anyway, being Saturday plenty of classes were on and the tap classes were, of course, the loudest. Clare and Al: "What's that, is it a storm coming?" Nah, tap dancing. I've met a brilliant tap dancing teacher . "Yes?". Sorry kids, she lives in Melbourne.
I'll do some thinking, and more research, about pricing. Probably it's just that markets are fickle. In conversation with other stallholders the consensus was that this one, only the second, was good and fun, just less lucrative.
Those big digital display panels are for Bingo which is held at this venue twice a week. A lady I know said the bingo players are nervous that the stallholders won't be gone by 6.00pm. Well, the market finished at 3.00pm - I think they were worrying a bit much. Bingo is addictive? Could be.
Why am I digging a hole? Sammy-cat died in the wee hours of this morning. She was making really good progress, so not sure why. A blood clot that moved? Injury that could not have been picked up in the X-rays. The vet rang just as I was making our sandwiches for market sustenance. I managed not to drench the bread, but I had to redo my makeup. I worry that I prolonged her suffering, that last Saturday she would have been better off "put to sleep". Fruitless worry.
I thought, "If I'm going to dig a big hole I might as well remove one of the trees that are going". Hence the major excavation of stumps and roots.
The hole needs to be deep enough the the dog doesn't dig up Sammy's body. I'm reminded of this Michael Leunig cartoon.
From his book Ramming the Shears.
I'll sign off now.
:-) re the tapping...
I'm so sad to hear about poor Sammy. As for that cartoon, it is a bit of Leunig brilliance isn't it.
Your stall looks wonderful and the girls look like awesome helpers! Getting the school fees covered sounds like pretty good going. I'm still in love with your little dresses, did they sell?

I'm really sad to hear about Sammy. It's always pretty hard to lose a family pet.
Your stall looks fantastic! Markets are hard - my sister has been doing them for a while and they are always up and down. Do you have any of the felt cats or dogs left? If so, I would be interested in buying one.

Your stall looks so charming.
So sorry to hear about Sammy cat. Heart rending. SO much second guessing - but as you say, fruitless. And if it had been different you'd be second guessing the decision to put her down. I hope she has a nice place to rest under some nice growing things.

Sorry about Sammy.xxoo
Our god recently dug up a dead rabbit. Twice.
Your stall looks really good and the girls suit the stall, if that makes sense.
